Potato  Apply 1.0 kg B ha as basal dose.
                                                                            or
                                                                   -1
                                                                                                -1
 Apply 0.5 kg B ha along with 12.5 t FYM ha as basal
                                                dose.
                                                                   -1
Chilli  Apply 1.25 kg B ha as basal dose during transplanting.
                                                                   -1
Sugarcane (Adsali)  Apply 2.0 kg B ha as basal dose. This dose is sufficient
for main crop as well as ratoon.

Tips for boron management in crops

 Borax, granubor and boric acid have proved to be equally effective in alleviating B
                  deficiency in soils.
 Though B deficiency is observed in almost all types of crops however, it is more common
                  in fruits and vegetable crops.
 Boron application during sowing is comparatively more effective however, foliar
application is helpful to alleviate B deficiency in standing crops.
 Boron is essential for pollen grain formation thereby seed setting so, its foliar application
before flowering is more beneficial in increasing crop yields. In soils where B is not
sufficiently available, foliar spray of 0.2% boric acid/ borax can control hidden hunger of
boron which is helpful in bud formation and flower.
 Residual effect of B is observed in succeeding crops also.

               Some important points
               1. Neutralization of spray solutions of ZnSO 4, CuSO 4 and MnSO 4 is essential for their foliar
application. Lime can be used to neutralize these salts effectively. Please make sure that
neutralized solution is filtered properly before pouring it into sprayer to avoid clogging
due to fine particles of limestone.
               2. Most appropriate time for foliar application on standing crop is morning hours as stomata
are open during early hours of the day. Slow vaporization of sprayed solution during cool
hours ensures their maximum absorption by foliage. Conditions of intense sunlight, high
wind or rain should be strictly avoided.
               3. Borax does not dissolve in cold water. So, lukewarm water can be used to solubilize it
before pouring into sprayers. However, other B sources like solubor can be easily
                  dissolved in cold water.
               4. Foliar application of FeSO 4 (10 g/L) does not require neutralization.Hence, there is no
need for adding lime solution before spray.
