Recommendations for Zn use in different crops and cropping systems

The rates of application of zinc fertilizers in different soils and crops is dependent on the
efficiency of zinc fertilizer, soil types, nature of the crop and yield target. A series of
recommendations worked outby scientists of All India Coordinated Research Project on
Micro and Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements, Bhopal based on the need for zinc
need of the crops are given in Table 6.

results reveal no soil Zn deficiency but zinc deficiency symptoms

 During rice transplanting, deep the rice seedlings in 1-4% zinc oxide
solution to avoid initial Zn deficiency in rice. After that if zinc
deficiency symptoms appear then spray 0.5% zinc sulphate hepta
hydrate or 0.3% zinc sulphate mono hydrate.
or
 Apply 10 kg zinc / ha in three years’ interval at the time of sowing in
rice-wheat cropping system grown in sodic soils.
or
 Application of 5 kg zinc / ha + 5 t FYM is sufficient for two cropping
systems.
Wheat Apply 2.5 kg Zn / ha as fertilizer for wheat crop or provide 3-4 foliar
spray of 0.5 zinc sulphate hepta hydrate or 0.3% zinc sulphate mono
hydrate mixed with lime solution.
